Competing on home soil in Cancun; Mexico secured both the cadet boys’ team and cadet girls’ team titles as play progressed on the second day of action, Thursday 7th February, at the 2019 Central American Junior and Cadet Championships.

Impressive performances secured the top step of the podium.

Selecting Jorge Buenrostro, Rogelio Castro and Leonardo Perez, a 3-0 semi-final win was recorded against colleagues Pablo Anguiano, Ricardo Fernandez and Raul Tapia, before a 3-1 success was posted in opposition to Guatemala’s Diego de la Cruz, Luis Ton and Ricardo Gatica.

Mainstay of the final victory was Rogelio Castro, he accounted for both Luis Ton (11-4, 13-11, 13-11) and Diego de la Cruz (11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 11-9); the one further success for the champions elect was recorded by Leonardo Perez. In the third match of the fixture he overcame Ricardo Gatica (11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6).

In the counterpart semi-final, the same three players as in the final on duty; Guatemala posted a 3-1 win in opposition to Costa Rica’s Adrian Cordero, Benjamin Paniagua and Johnny Vasquez.

Gold and bronze for Mexico in the cadet boys’ team competition, for the cadet girls, it was gold and silver.

Selecting Aurora Andrade, Luna Cortes and Ixchel Reyes the title was sealed with a 3-0 success against the Panama trio of Lia Rodriguez, Paulette Quiel and Sofia Osorio prior to the same margin of victory being recorded in opposition to the Costa Rica combination of Maripaz Araya, Paula Gomez and Meredith Solis, a contest in which Jimena Pena replaced Luna Cortes.

Meanwhile, Maria José Castillo, Tamara Martin and Dominique Reyes emulated the efforts of their colleagues by overcoming Panama to seal runners up spot. Guatemala’s Jenny Cux, Monica Mejia and Dulce Lopez finished next in line.

In the contest for third place they recorded a 3-0 win against Costa Rica, who fielded the same trio as later in the day when facing the Mexico.
