Led by Giulia Takahashi, who will be on duty for the Hopes Team later in the year at the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge in Fiji, Brazil presents a formidable challenge for honours in the Under 13 Girls’ Team competition.
Also for Giulia Takahashi there is a personal goal. Earlier this year in March, at the Paraguay Junior and Cadet Open; she was the runner up in the Cadet Girls’ Team event in harness with Beatriz Kimoto, before later in the tournament finishing in the same position in both the Cadet Girls’ Singles and Junior Girls’ Singles competitions.
Silver medals but a quite outstanding effort; at the time she was only 11years old!
Now on her return to the Paraguayan capital city, she seeks one step higher, the top step of the medal podium. In the Under 13 Girls’ Team event, she partners Beatriz Kanashiro.
Similarly, in the Under 13 Boys’ Team event, represented by Gustavo Gertsmann, Shim Joon and Flavio Shiray, Brazil presents formidable opposition, with as always, neighbours and sporting rivals Argentina being contenders for honours.
Tomas Sanchi and Ulises Limos form the Argentine Under 13 Boys’ Team; for the girls it is Elea Hernandez and Guillermina Rios.
A strong challenge from Brazil and Argentina; no doubt Mexico and Peru will also have their mind set on honours and may well influence the outcome. Rogelio Castro and Leonardo Perez form the Mexican Under 13 Boys’ Team, for the Under 13 Girls’ Team it is Arantxa Cossio and Pitar Alvarado.
Meanwhile for Peru, Carlos Fernandez and Nicola Luna comprise the Boys’ Team; Maria Maldonado and Ana Aragon complete the Girls’ Team.
Overall in the five day tournament, a total of 78 boys and 58 girls will compete, representing 13 national associations.
The national associations in question are: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Puerto Rico.
