At the final hurdle they overcame Mexico’s Rogelio Castro and Arantxa Cossio (7-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-5, 14-12), having in the penultimate round ousted Peru’s Carlos Fernandez and Maria Maldonado (11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9). In the counterpart semi-final, Rogelio Castro and Arantxa Cossio had accounted Panama’s David Herrera and Sofia Osorio (11-5, 11-8, 11-4).
More success for Brazil, in the Under 11 Mixed Doubles event, it was success for Mexico in the guise of Jorge Buenostro and Ximena Figueroa. In the title deciding contest, they beat Puerto Rico’s Derek Valentin and Kristal Melendez (11-9, 11-8, 11-9).
Earlier in the penultimate round, Jorge Buenostro and Ximena Figueroa had defeated Guatemala’s Ricardo Gatica and Jenny Cux (11-7, 15-13, 11-13, 11-7); Derek Valentin and Kristal Melendez had ended the hopes of Brazil’s Leonardo Iizuka and Beatriz Kanashiro (4-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-8).
Titles decided; in the Under 13 Boys’ Doubles and in the Under 13 Girls’ Doubles events, as in the Under 11 Boys’ Doubles and Under 13 Girls’ Doubles, the finalists are known but eventual outcome has yet to be decided.
Peru’s Carlos Fernandez and Nicolas Luna booked their place in the Under 13 Boys’ Doubles final courtesy of success against Guatemala’s Diego de la Cruz and Luis Ton (11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6). In the title deciding contest they meet Puerto Rico’s Angel Naranjo and Derek Valentin (12-10, 11-2, 11-8), the semi-final winners in opposition to Ecuador’s Henry Ibarra and Sebastian Nogales (12-10, 11-2, 11-8).
Progress for Peru, it is the same in the Under 13 Girls’ Doubles event. Ana Aragon and Maria Maldonado overcame Argentina’s Elea Hernandez and Guillermina Rios to reserve their place in the gold medal duel. Awaiting is the Mexican partnership of Arantxa Cossio and Paula Pen, the semi-final winners in opposition to Brazil’s Beatrix Kanashiro and Paula Pen (11-7, 4-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4).
Meanwhile, in the Under 11 Boys’ Doubles and Under 11 Girls’ Doubles events, the country to note is that of Ecuador.
Esteban Alban and Joshua Robayo beat Argentina’s Agustin Jang and Tobias Pereyra (11-9, 13-11, 11-8) at the Under 11 Boys’ Doubles semi-final stage; in the same round of the Under 11 Girls’ Doubles competition, Angelica Arellano and Valentina Zea accounted for Peru’s Alexandra Chavez and Valentina Zea (5-11, 14-12, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3).
One Peruvian pair beaten; another now awaits in the final. In the corresponding Under 11 Girls’ Doubles semi-final, Aheli Llufire and Ana Paola Yenobi, overcame Guatemala’s Jenny Cux and Kimbely Garcia (11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7).
A stern challenge awaiting the Ecuador girls, no doubt it is the same for the Ecuador boys; Esteban Alban and Joshua Robayo face Brazil’s Leonardo Iizuka and Guilherme Marchiori, the Under 11 Boys’ Team champions. In the penultimate round they beat Dominican Republic’s Eduardo Darley and Ramon Vila (11-2, 11-9, 11-8).
Play in Asuncion concludes on Saturday 30th September.
