At the semi-final stage the two pairs halted the possibility of an all Chinese final; Shin Yubin and Ryu Hanna beat Qian Tianyi and Shi Xunyao, not only the top seeds in Nay Pyi Taw but the players who occupy the top two places on the Under 18 Girls’ World Rankings and on the ITTF World Junior Circuit Standings.

Most impressively and very much against the odds, Shin Yubin and Ryu Hanna emerged successful in three straight games (11-8, 11-8, 11-9).

Defeat for Qian Tianyi and Shi Xunyao, at the same time Yumeno Soma and Haruna Ojio rose to the occasion; in a similar manner they beat Guo Yuhan and Zhang Binyue in straight games (14-12, 11-4, 11-9). Furthermore, the partnership of Guo Yuhan and Zhang Binyue was a combination in form; one round earlier, they had overcome Chinese Taipei’s Chen Ting-Ting and Su Pei-Ling, the no.2 seeds (11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8).

Conversely, in the Junior Boys’ Doubles event, gold for China is an option; in the Junior Mixed Doubles it is certain.

In the Junior Mixed Doubles final Xu Yingbin and Shi Xunyao face Yu Heyi and Qian Tianyi; in the penultimate round, the former pair beat India’s Manav Vikash Thakkar and Archana Girish Kamath (7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 10-12, 11-7), the latter ended the hopes of Chinese Taipei’s Li Hsin-Yang and Chen Ting-Ting (11-5, 11-3, 13-11).

Meanwhile, in the Junior Boys’ Doubles title decider, Xu Yingbin and Yu Heyi oppose Korea Republic’s Choi Inhyeok and Kwak Yubin; in the penultimate round both pairs ended Indian hopes. Xu Yingbin and Yu Heyi overcame Manav Vikash Thakkar and Manush Utpalbhai Shah (11-8, 11-8, 13-11); Choi Inhyeok and Kwak Yubin accounted for Jeet Chandra and Snehit Suravajjula (11-3, 12-10, 11-7).

Play in Nay Pyi Taw concludes on Saturday 18th August.
