Places reserved in the final of the Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events by China on Tuesday 14th August at the 2018 Asian Junior and Cadet Championships in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar but by very different routes.

Also it was the same for the respective opponents in the title deciding contests, Japan and Korea Republic.

In the Cadet Boys’ Team event with Kuang Li and Zeng Beixun on duty, China recorded a three-nil quarter-final success against Singapore’s Andy Wong Yan Kai and Lim Dao Yi, before succeeding by the same margin when facing Hong Kong represented by Yiu Kwan To and Yu Nok with Choy Chun Kit joining forces with Yiu Kwan To for the doubles.

Similarly, in the opposite half of the draw there were few problems for Japan who selected Hiroto Shinozuka and Kazaki Harada for the singles encounters, the latter partnering Haruki Harada in the doubles.

A three-nil win was posted against India’s Dev Shroff and Payas Jain prior to a three-one success being the order of the day when facing Chinese Taipei’s Li Hsin-Yu, Huang Yan-Cheng and Wang Guan-Ru; Li Hsin-Yu and Wang Guan-Ru being the doubles formation.

Relatively comfortable passages to the final; the route in the Cadet Girls’ Team event was paved with obstacles.

China with Chen Yi and Kuai Man being the singles selection, Kuai Man and Li Yuqi joining forces in the doubles, a three-nil win was posted against Iran’s Shima Safaei and Kimia Rostami, before in the penultimate round coming dangerously close to defeat. They were extended the full five match distance by the Chinese Taipei trio formed by Huang Yu-Jie, Tsai Yun-En and Tsai Pei-Rung; the latter two being the doubles partnership.

Chen Yi, the winner of four Cadet Girls’ Singles titles on this year’s ITTF World Junior Circuit, was the player to suffer. She was beaten by Huang Yu-Jie in the opening match of the fixture (11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10) and in the fourth contest by Tsai Yun-En (11-9, 13-11, 11-9).

The heroine for China was Kuai Man in the vital fifth and deciding engagement, she recovered from a two games to nil deficit to beat Huang Yu-Jie (12-14, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4).

A close call for China, it was exactly the same for Korea Republic. Represented by Byun Seoyoung and Kim Jimin, they recorded a three-nil quarter-final success against Indonesia’s Siti Aminah and Dwi Oktaviani Sugiarto before, like China, being extended the full five match distance in the penultimate round.

Japan’s Haruna Ojio and Kako Akae proved most worthy opponents with Haruna Ojio the thorn in the side. She beat Byun Seoyoung (11-5, 11-9, 11-7) and Kim Jimin (11-2, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5); the star of the show for Korea Republic was Byun Seoyoung. Just as Kuai Man recovered from a two-nil deficit in the vital fifth match of the engagement, so did Byun Seoyoung. She beat Kako Akae in five games (5-10, 10-12, 11-6, 11-3, 11-5).

The finals of the Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events will be played on Wednesday 15th August.
