The leading lady, Liu Shiwen, absent from the line-up, it was defeat for Anxin in the 17th round of the Chinese Women’s Super League on Wednesday 21st December; they experienced a three-nil reverse at the hands of Shandong Luneng.

Now, in the race for one of the four play-off places, Shandong Luneng (30 points), leads Anxin and Shandong Qilu (29 points) with Bayi next in line (28 points).

Facing Anxin, Zhu Yuling gave Shandong Luneng the ideal start by beating Liu Gaoyang (11-9, 11-5, 11-3), before Gu Yuting accounted for Zhang Rui (11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8) and a doubles success for Gu Yuting and Li Xiaodan against Liu Gaoyang and Feng Yalan concluded matters (6-11, 11-6, 7-5).

Success for Shandong Luneng in their quest for honours; it was the same for Shandong Qiliu but not for Bayi.

Shandong Qilu beat Jilin by three matches to one; Bayi experienced a three-one defeat when facing Shenzhen.

Mainstay of the Shandong Qilu victory was Wu Yang. She accounted for both Liu Fei and (4-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-8) and Wang Manyu (11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9). The one further win for Shandong Qilu was secured by Chen Xingtong; in the second match of the fixture, she overcame Wang Manyu (15-17, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 9-7). The one win for Jilin was gained in the doubles; Chen Ke and Yuan Xuejiao overcame Cheng Xingtong and Wen Jia (11-9, 11-9).

A three-one win for Shandong Qilu, it was a three-one loss for Bayi; they were beaten by Shenzhen.

Impressively, Chen Meng accounted for Sun Mingyang (11-9, 11-4, 11-7) and Mu Zi (11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-3). Sandwiched in between Qian Tianyi and Sun Yingsha added to the Shenzhen success by beating Liu Xin and Sun Mingyang (11-7, 7-11, 10-7); for Bayi, Mu Zi overcame He Zhuojia (11-9, 11-4, 11-7).

Meanwhile, in the remaining fixtures, it was a return to winning ways for Beijing; with Ding Ning, Li Jiayuan and Shang Dandan on duty, they beat the Shanxi outfit of Che Xiaoxi, Jiang Yue, Guo Yichen and Zheng Shichang by three matches to one.

Likewise there was success for Ordos. Represented by Feng Tianwei, Li Jiayi and Zhu Zhaohui, they overcame the Sichuan trio of Guo Yan, Zhou Yihan and Yang Hujing in a full distance five match encounter.

Success for Shenzhen means they are now in fifth place alongside Beijing (27 points). Next in line is Jilin (24 points) followed by Shanxi and ordos (22 points). Sichuan is in tenth place (17 points)
