Round 5 of the Chinese Super League has finished with Xu Xin having a surprise loss.

Men’s League

Led by Ma Long,Tianjin made a 3-0 clean sweep in their match against Shanghai in the fifth round of the Chinese Super League. It was Ma Te that pulled off the biggest upset. The defender defeated Xu Xin in the second match to all but guarantee the win.

Bayi, led by the newly crowned ITTF World Tour Grand Final Men’s Singles Champion Fan Zhendong had a 3-1 victory against Shenzhen. While Fan did not play in the singles match, he paired with Zhou Kai to win in straight games.

Meanwhile Shandong Weiqiao dominated Anhui 3-0. Weiqiao now has five consecutive wins during the season and is top of leaderboard.

Women’s League

Led by Zhu Yuling, Shandong Luneng has won all five matches this season, cruising to a 3-0 win over Sichuan in the fifth round.

The match between Jilin and Shenzhen proved to be a close affair with Jilin coming out on top 3-2. Wang Manyu made the biggest contribution, providing two points for Jilin by winning against Sung Yingsha 3-1 and Chen Meng 3-0 respectively in the first and third games.

Wuhan 3-1 Beijing. Liu Shiwen and Ding Ning faced off in a grudge match that went the full five game distance as Wuhan faced Beijing. It was Liu that came away with the win, helping Wuhan notch up a 3-1 win.
