First organised in 2015, World Table Tennis Day is celebrated annually on 6th April; it also marks the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

The ITTF Foundation spearheads the celebration, making proceedings as socially inclusive as possible. The ultimate aim of the celebration is to keep as many people as possible involved with table tennis.

Undoubtedly, this year has been one of the toughest for our community and yet, we continue to be determined to bring everyone together – in a socially distant fashion – and maintain the quintessence of World Table Tennis Day.

In a bid to promote #GenderEquality and #FEMpowerment, the 2021 #WorldTableTennisDay will revolve around three main pillars:

> Popularity

> Universality

> Inclusiveness

In order to improve the participation rate of women and girls in table tennis, WTTD is focused on shedding light on the need for same human rights as well as the tough situation that young girls and women have to come through.

In the times of COVID-19, reports suggest the violence and oppression against women has sadly increased. Thus, the fight for equal fundamental human rights is not only related to females but everyone, including men and boys have to be involved.

So how can you join the cause at WTTD 2021?

  • Keep up to date, flatten the curve.
  • Virtual celebration – for those, where COVID-19 is still present.
  • Physical celebration – for those, who are allowed to host an event.
