Dominant throughout, gold in every event to date, Mexico continued their winning ways on the penultimate day of action, Friday 5th April, at the 2019 Central American Championships in Guatemala City.

Represented by Miguel Lara, Marcos Madrid and Ricardo Villa, they progressed to the final of the men’s team event.Meanwhile, with one fixture to complete in the women’s team competition, Clio Barcenas, Monica Muñoz and Yadira Silva remain unbeaten.

First place in the initial phase group secured the previous day, a 3-0 semi-final win was recorded against the Nicaraguan outfit formed by Denilson Castellon, Gary Castro and Luis Moreno.

Similarly at the same stage, Guatemala recorded a comprehensive success; they secured a 3-1 margin of victory in opposition to the Costa Rican trio formed by Mauricio Angulo, Daniel Araya and Jeison Martinez. The one winner for Costa Rica being Jeison Martinez, in the third match of the fixture he accounted for Hector Gatica (13-11, 7-11, 11-8, 16-14).

Imposing performances executed by Mexico in the men’s team competition it was the same in the women’s team event. Clio Barcenas, Monica Muñoz and Yadira Silva showed no charity.

On the penultimate day of a play a 3-0 win was recorded against the Honduran outfit comprising Diana Avelar, Rebecca Ayestas and Raquel Discua prior to a 3-1 margin of victory being secured in opposition to El Salvador’s Cristina Machado, Monica Mendoza and Cecilia Orantes. The player to cause the Mexicans problems being Monica Mendoza, in the third match of the engagement the El Salvadorian recovered from a two games to nil deficit to overcome Clio Barcenas (7-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7).

Now just one fixture remains, as with the men in what is effectively a final, Guatemala provides the opposition.

Likewise, the outfit formed Lucia Cordero, Mabelyn Enriquez and Hidalynn Zapata remains unbeaten; in their one engagement on the fourth day of play, like Mexico, they recorded a 3-0 win against Honduras.
