Located on the eastern coast of Central America, one of the most recent members of the International Table Tennis Federation, accepted formally as a member at the Annual General Meeting staged in the Chinese city of Guangzhou in 2008 on the occasion of the Evergrande Real Estate World Team Championships, table tennis in Belize continues to prosper.

After two weeks of competition, the Habet 2018 Team League came to a conclusion on Sunday 25th November.

Organised under the direction of Arturo “Tux” Vasquez, the President of the Belize Table Tennis Association, the competition followed a different format to previous years. In each division all teams competed against each other with a play-off involving the leading outfits concluding matters.

Notably the selections included both male and female players; three divisions being organized, overall a total of 14 teams competed. The numbers may not appear at first sight large but one must take into account that a decade ago there was virtually nothing and the country has the lowest population density rate in Central America.

Trophies were awarded to the leading teams in each division, Carlo Habet, General Manager of the Brothers Habet Company making the presentations. He congratulated all participants and parents for their support and commended the Belize Table Tennis Association for organising such a splendid event.

Most importantly, he promised continued support.

“Congratulations go all the winners, a big thank you to our sponsor, participants, parents and organising committee, for making this year’s event another successful tournament.” Arturo Vasquez

The next event on the Belize Table Tennis Association calendar for 2018 calendar is the BNE National Championships; the tournament is scheduled for Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December.
