The 16th International Table Tennis Federation Sports Science Congress, under the motto “Multifunctional Table Tennis: From the Top Level to the Health Sport Concept” will be held in Budapest on Friday 19th April and Saturday 20th April 2019.

It will be jointly organised by University of Pecs Faculty of Health Sciences and Hungarian Table Tennis Association.

by Professor Miran Kondric, Chair ITTF Sports Science and Medical Committee

Table tennis is attractive at both the competitive and recreational level but poses many challenges due to the physical demands of performance as well as the injuries that can occur to participants. Owing to these challenges, table tennis is of great interest to sports scientists, physicians, therapists, athletic trainers as well as strength and conditioning coaches.

Also of interest to table tennis are the effects of equipment design, playing surfaces, shoes and other interfaces between the player and the sport. The progress of technology, sports evolve in new and different ways, perhaps requiring different training methods and perhaps causing different injuries.

The Congress will provide up-to-date information on current applications of sports science to table tennis. Oral and poster presentations will provide the participant an opportunity to see the practical application of ideas whenever possible.

Importantly, the Congress aims to bring together those with an interest in current developments and application of scientific principles to table tennis. It will include sports scientists, researchers, coaches, therapists, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and others who may be interested in the science of these sport.

Now the first call for papers is announced; a second announcement will be made later by the end of the year.
