Beaten by the Chinese combination of Sui Xiaoran, Wang Guining and Zhang Yulei at the semi-final stage of proceedings in the Jordanian capital city of Amman some six weeks ago in late July; on Saturday 15th September at the 2018 Croatia Junior and Cadet Open, Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yu-Jie and Tsai Yu-En totally turned the tables.

Just as they had experienced a three-one reverse in the Middle East when facing China in the penultimate round of the Cadet Girls' Team event, in Varazdin in the same round it was a total reversal of fortunes. They beat the combination of Kuai Man, Xie Jiatong and Zhang Xiangyu by the same margin as they had suffered earlier defeat.

Star of the show for the no.3 seeds in opposition to the top seeds, was Tsai Yun-En; in the opening match of the fixture, she beat Zhang Xiangyu (5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 13-11), before performing heroics. She executed a remarkable recovery in the fourth match of the engagement to overcome Kuai Man in a quite titanic duel (2-11, 9-11, 12-10, 17-15, 11-9), the player who one month earlier had won the Cadet Girls’ Singles title at the Asian Junior and Cadet Championships in Myanmar.

The one further Chinese Taipei success was secured in the doubles when Huang Yu-Jie and Tsai Yu-En accounted for Xie Jiatong and Zhang Xiangyu (11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-3); the one win for China was gained in the second match of the engagement when Kuai Man prevailed against Huang Yu-Jie (11-2, 11-9, 11-7).

A place in the final booked, the good form continued; a three-one win was recorded against the no.2 seeded outfit formed by England’s Jasmin Wong and the host nation’s Hana Arapovic and Hanna Loncarevic. Tsai Yun-En beat both Jasmin Wong (11-2, 11-5, 11-7) and Hana Arapovic; the wins coming after in the open match of the fixture Huang Yu-Jie had also accounted for Hana Arapovic. The one success for the defeated came in the doubles when Hana Arapovic and Hanna Loncarevic joined forces to record a close five games success (11-7, 11-6, 6-11, 7-11, 11-9).

Earlier at the quarter-final stage, Huang Yu-Jie and Tsai Yu-En had recorded a three-nil win against the Germany ‘B’ duo of Naomi Pranjkovic and Jele Stortz, the no.5 seeds.

Meanwhile, in the opposite half of the draw, in the latter stages Jasmin Wong, Hana Arapovic and Hanna Loncarev had combined to beat the German ‘A’ partnership of Sarah Rau and Annett Kaufmann, the no.8 seeds, prior to reserving their place in the final courtesy of a three-nil success in opposition to Hungary’s Csenge Adamik and Dorottya Tolgyes, the no.4 seeds.

The Cadet Girls’ Team event concluded; attention now turns to the Cadet Boys’ Singles, Cadet Girls’ Singles, Cadet Boys’ Doubles and Cadet Girls’ Doubles events; play concludes on Sunday 16th September.
