Success for the combination comprising China’s Wang Rui, Russia’s Maliak Alieva and Keiko Fujimoto; they emerged the winners of Class 6-7, the first title to be decided in the Women’s Team events at the 2018 China Para Open in Beijing on Saturday 1st September.

Furthermore, they were somewhat surprise winners; they finished ahead of the top seeded partnership formed by Ukraine’s Maryna Lytovchenko and Germany's Stephanie Grebe. Third place was secured by Macao’s U Choi Hong and La Oi Man.

A surprise outcome and as the Women’s Team events progressed there was one more; in Class 10, the top seeds, China’s Hou Chunxiao and Kong Wenje experienced a two-one defeat.

They suffered at the hands of the outfit formed by Chinese Taipei’s Lin Tzu-Yu, Nigeria’s Faith Obazuaye and Vietnam’s Viet Thi Kim Van, after in their opening contest experiencing a two-nil reverse when confronting colleagues Fan Lei and Zhao Xiaojing. Fan Lei and Zhao Xiaojing remain the one unbeaten outfit in the group organised event.

Otherwise, in competitions administered on a group basis, it was success for the leadings outfits as matters commenced in the Women’s Team events.

In Class 3, China’s Xu Juan and Li Qian, the top seeds, remained unbeaten in their initial contests as did Croatia’s Andela Muzinic and Helena Dretar, the no.2 seeds. Similarly, it was a day of success in Class 4-5 for the host nation’s Zhang Bian and Zhou Ying, the no.1 seeds, as it was for the top two combinations in Class 8-9. China’s Xiong Guiyan, Liu Meng and Li Guiying maintained a perfect record, a feat achieved also by Russia’s Olga Komleva, Viktoriya Safonova and Elena Litvinenko.

Meanwhile, in Class 11, Japan represented by Sayuri Mio and Kanami Furukawa, ended the day the only unbeaten team.

Play in Beijing concludes on Sunday 2nd September.
