Four days of play completed at the 2018 Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic; the host nation alongside Puerto Rico have proved the dominant forces.

Therefore, on Thursday 30th August, as the group phase of the Under 11 and Under 13 Boys’ Singles events progressed alongside the Under 11 and Under 13 Girls’ Singles competitions, it was good to see those from other national associations enjoying success.

Notably players from Guyana and Jamaica, in addition to Trinidad and Tobago, secured first places in their respective groups.

In the Under 13 Boys’ Singles event, Guyana’s Jonathan Van Lange and Kaysan Ninvalle both excelled to secure pole positions as did Trinidad and Tobago’s Jalen Kerr in addition to Nicholas O’Young.

Also, in the Under 13 Girls’ Singles, Trinidad and Tobago was very much to the fore. Priyanka Khellewan remained unbeaten to reserve top spot in her group, an achievement emulated by Jamaica’s Kelsy Davidson and Gianna Lewis.

Success for Jamaica, it was the same in the initial phases of both the Under 11 Boys’ Singles and Under 11 Girls’ Singles events; in the former it was top spot without defeat for Azizi Johnson, as it was in the latter for Tsenaye Lewis and for Le-Anna Smith.

Similarly, Guyana as well as Trinidad and Tobago made their presence felt; representing Guyana, Colin Wong secured first place in his Under 11 Boys’ Singles group, a feat replicated by Chloe Fraser in her Under 11 Girls’ Singles group.

Meanwhile, for three players who are line for a full house, having secured three titles to date; it was top spot in the group and the possibility of clean sweep very much alive.

The Dominican Republic’s Rafael Cabrera and Shary Muñoz are very much on course; both topped their respective Under 11 Boys’ Singles and Under 11 Girls’ Singles groups without due alarm, as in the Under 13 Girls’ Singles event did Puerto Rico’s Daymar Castro.

Play concludes in Santo Domingo on Friday 31st August.
