Jeoung Youngsik and Lee Sangsu progressed without any great moments of alarm; no nervous deciding game was needed.

At the quarter-final stage they beat Indian qualifiers Sharath Kamal Achanta and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in three straight games (11-7, 16-14, 11-4), prior to reserving their place in the final courtesy of success in opposition to Chinese Taipei’s Liao Cheng-Ting and Lin Yun-Ju, the no.7 seeds (11-9, 11-6, 6-11, 12-10), very much a partnership for the future and very much a partnership in good form.

Impressively one round earlier they had caused an upset. They had ousted Germany’s Patrick Franziska and Ricardo Walther, the no.3 seeds, recovering from an opening game deficit to record a four games success (11-13, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9).

Relatively comfortable for the Jeoung Youngsik and Lee Sangsu, for Masataka Morizono and Yuya Oshima it was very different.

They commenced the day with a straight games win against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chien-An and Chuang Chih-Yuan, the no.5 seeds (11-8, 12-10, 11-5), before being stretched to the very limit by Korea Republic’s Lim Jonghoon and Jang Woojin, the no.6 seeds and the winners the previous week on home soil in Daejeon.

Masataka Morizono and Yuya Oshima emerged successful by the very minimal two point margin in the deciding fifth game (6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 10-12).

The final will be played on the evening of Sunday 29th July, the closing day of action in Geelong.
