Every major title on planet earth secured but China’s Ma Long is a man with a mission; regaining the top spot on the Men’s World Rankings is the avowed goal, of that fact there is no doubt.

Following success on the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour in Germany and more recently on home soil on Sunday 3rd June; on newly issued Men’s World Rankings, he climbs from no.6 to no.2, just one place behind his colleague, Fan Zhendong, the player he beat in the Shenzhen final.

The effect of the elevation is that it is one place lower down the order for Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Timo Boll; they now occupy the third and fourth listed places respectively.

Also feeling the outcome of Ma Long’s promotion is colleague, Xu Xin, he drops two places to no.6, one spot behind Lin Gaoyuan, also from China, who remains in the no.5 spot.

Changes, for the remaining leading names, the status is as per May. Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting remains at no.7, followed by Korea Republic’s Lee Sangsu with the Japanese duo of Koki Niwa and Tomokazu Harimoto once again the next on the list. Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Frenchman Simon Gauzy complete the top 12 names.

The status quo for Lee Sangsu; for his colleagues Lim Jonghoon, Cho Seungmin, Jang Woojin, alongside Jeoung Youngsik and Kim Donghyun there is major progress.

Semi-finalist on the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour in both Hong Kong and China, Lim Jonghoon moves from no.39 to no.23; Cho Seungmin, the silver medallist in Hong Kong climbs from no.54 to no.40. Similarly, Jang Woojin is now at no.34, Jeoung Youngsik at no.42, whilst Kim Donghyun stands at no.62. Previously Jang Woojin was at no.40, Jeoung Youngsik at no.55; Kim Donghyun at no.80.

Likewise, amongst the top one hundred names there is major progress for England’s Liam Pitchford and Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yun-Ju, as there is for Sweden’s Jon Persson, Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi and Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic.

Liam Pitchford moves from no.58 to no.49, Lin Jun-Yu from no.65 to no.54 and Jon Persson from no.68 to no.58. Likewise, Jiang Tianyi climbs from no.73 to no.63, Darko Jorgic from no.78 to no.67.

Also, move from outside the top one hundred names, Japan’s Kazuhiro Yoshimura, the winner on the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour in Hong Kong, in addition to the Chinese duo of Liang Jingkun and Wang Chuqin climb the listings.

Kazuhiro Yoshimura advances from no.106 to no.75, Liang Jingkun from no.125 to no.82; Wang Chuqin from no.137 to no.97.
