Honours were shared as play progressed on the penultimate day of action, Saturday 7th October, at the 2017 South American Youth Games in Chilean capital city of Santiago.

Peru’s Rodrigo Hidalgo and Jhon Loli won the Boys’ Doubles title, Brazil struck gold in the Girls’ Doubles event in the guise of Beatriz Kimoto and Livia Lima, whilst in the Mixed Doubles competition the top prize finished in the hands of Argentina’s Martin Bentancor and Camila Kaizoji.

Rodrigo Hidalgo and Jhon Loli accounted for Chile’s Nicolas Burgos and Andres Martinez at the final hurdle of the Boys’ Doubles event (11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6), having at the semi-final stage overcome Argentina’s Martin Bentancor and Leandro Fuentes (11-2, 11-3, 13-11).

In the counterpart penultimate round exchange, Nicolas Burgos and Andres Martinez had defeated Colombia’s Camilo Gonzalez and Santiago Montes (11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6).

Impressive from Rodrigo Hidalgo and Jhon Loli, it was the same from Beatriz Kimoto and Livia Lima in the Girls’ Doubles competition; they beat the host nation’s Jerusalen Flores and Valentina Rios (11-9, 10-12, 14-12, 8-11, 11-7), prior to securing the title at the final expense of Argentina’s Camila Kaizoji and Daniela Zapatero (9-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-5). In the opposite half of the draw at the semi-final stage, Camila Kaizoji and Daniela Zapatero had ousted Peru’s Karima Apud and Leyla Gomez (6-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8).

The silver medal for Kamila Kaizoji, in the Girls’ Doubles event, in partnership with Martin Bentancor, it was Mixed Doubles gold.

After having accounted for Ecuador’s Bryan Escobar and Nathaly Paredes (5-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9), the Argentine duo overcame Nicolas Burgos and Valentina Rios (11-7, 13-11, 11-8) to arrest the title; in the opposite half of the draw Nicolas Burgos and Valentina Rios had ended the hopes of Brazil’s Guilerme Teodoro and Livia Lima by the very narrowest of margins (9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9).

Notably in the doubles events seven countries gained medals: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru.

The Boys’ Singles and Girls’ Singles events will be played to a conclusion on Sunday 8th October, the concluding day of competition in Santiago.
