Tragically on Sunday 5th February 1995, Hungary’s very promising Janos Molnar was killed in a car accident en route to a national ranking tournament; he was only 13 years old at the time.
Sadly his mother was also killed, when their BMW 520 car hit a tree some 18 kilometres before the venue. Younger brother, Krisztian, eight years old at time survived. He progressed to gain honours at the European Youth Championships in 1999 and 2001.
Following the death of Janos Molnar, an international tournament was staged in his memory in 1996; the event has now become an annual fixture on the international calendar.
Notably many leading names of the present day era have competed in the tournament. They include Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Portugal’s Tiago Apolónia, Croatia’s Andrej Gacina, Ukraine’s Yaroslav Zhmudenko and Serbia’s Zolt Peto.
Four age groups are staged Junior Boys’ Singles (born after 01.01.1999), Cadet Boys’ Singles (born after 01.01.2002), Mini Cadet Boys’ Singles, No. 1 (born after 01.01.2004), Mini Cadet Boys’ Singles, No. 2 (born between 01.01.2005 and 31.12.2005) and Mini Cadet Boys’ Singles, No. 3 (born after 01.01.2006).
Each competition will be organized in two stages. The first stage will be organized on a group basis. The second stage will be organized on a knock-out basis. Joola equipment will used throughout.
The closing date for entries is Friday 20th January 2016
