Occupying top spot on the ITTF World Junior Circuit Girls’ Standings, Japan’s Yuko Kato was the player in form on Thursday 22nd September at the 2016 Slovenia Junior and Cadet Open in Otocec.

Defeat in the group stage of proceedings against Chinese Taipei’s Wen Ruei-Ling (11-4, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9) in a three-one overall success; it was a different story when they met again in the final on the second day of action.

Partnering national team colleague Kana Takeuchi and Amy Wang of the United States, Yuko Kato reversed the decision of the previous day by recording a hard fought five games success in the second contest of the final (14-12, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9).

Even more vital

A vital win; there was arguably an even more vital success later in the fixture.

Matters level at two-all, in the vital fifth match of the engagement, Yuko Kato sealed her team’s victory by overcoming Su Pei-Ling, like Wen Ruei-Ling from Chinese Taipei, by the very minimal two point margin in the deciding game (13-15, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 12-10).

Further win

The one further win for the champions elect was recorded by Kana Takeuchi in the fourth match of the fixture when overcoming Wen Ruei-Ling in four games (11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8).

Meanwhile, the wins for the vanquished were secured by Su Pei-Ling in the opening match of the fixture against Kana Takeuchi (11-9, 11-5, 11-3) and in the third contest of the engagement when Kitti Korda accounted for Amy Wang (11-7, 7-11, 14-12, 1-11, 11-8).

Penultimate round

Earlier in the day, at the semi-final stage Kana Takeuchi, Yuko Kato and Amy Wang had recorded a three-nil win against the Croatian trio of Klara Cakol, Andrea Pavlovic and Leona Santek.

An impressive performance, it was very much the same from the combination of Kitti Korda, Su Pei-Ling and Wu Ruei-Ling.

In the penultimate round they overcame the German trio formed by Caroline Hajok, Janina Kammerer and Jennie Wolf by three matches to one. The one win for the Germans was recorded by Caroline Hajok, in the second match of the engagement; she beat Kitti Korda (11-9, 11-7, 11-3).
