Exactly three years from today, the world will turn its eyes to Los Angeles as it hosts the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games LA28 in a landmark dual-venue celebration at the historic LA Memorial Coliseum and the state-of-the-art Stadium in Inglewood.

The LA28 Games will mark Los Angeles’ third time hosting the Olympic Games, following the 1932 and 1984 editions. However, it will be the first time that table tennis features on the programme in the City of Angels, as the sport made its Olympic debut later — at Seoul 1988. Since then, table tennis has become a pillar of the Olympic Movement and now boasts the highest number of medal events among all racquet sports.

Indeed, the sport will award a record number of Olympic medals as the LA28 table tennis programme expands to include Men’s and Women’s Singles, the return of Men’s and Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and — for the first time ever — the Mixed Team event.

“Table tennis has come a long way since its Olympic debut, and LA28 will mark a bold leap forward,” said Petra Sörling, ITTF President and IOC Member. “The inclusion of the Mixed Team event and the return of Men’s and Women’s Doubles affirms our sport’s growing global popularity. We are proud to be at the forefront of promoting gender balance and expanding opportunities for table tennis players to shine on the Olympic stage.”

This expansion not only enriches the competitive landscape but also reflects the ITTF’s vision of driving innovation while honouring the sport’s legacy. Fans will see new Olympic doubles champions emerge — the first since Athens 2004, when China’s Chen Qi and Ma Lin (Men’s Doubles), and Wang Nan and Zhang Yining (Women’s Doubles) last stood atop the podium.

Momentum for LA28 is building on the heels of a highly successful Paris 2024 campaign, where table tennis captivated crowds with sold-out sessions and an electrifying atmosphere. The ITTF is committed to working closely with organisers and stakeholders to deliver an even more memorable experience in Los Angeles — one that reflects the sport’s evolution and ever-growing global fanbase.

The table tennis events will be staged at LA Convention Center Hall 3, one of the United States’ premier event venues. A hub of international activity, the Convention Center previously served as the Main Press Centre for the 1984 Games and continues to host major events and exhibitions year-round.

As the countdown to LA28 begins in earnest, the ITTF celebrates this moment as an exciting milestone on the road to a landmark Games that will blend legacy, innovation, and inspiration.
