International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Dr Thomas Bach was presented with the inaugural ITTF Badge of Honour by ITTF President Petra Sörling and Deputy President Liu Guoliang, during a special recognition ceremony held alongside the ITTF Summit in Doha, Qatar.

President Bach, currently in Doha attending the ITTF World Championships Finals 2025, delivered a keynote address at the Summit. ITTF President Sörling praised Dr Bach for his impactful contributions to the sport of table tennis throughout his presidency, specifically noting the addition of two Olympic medal events—mixed doubles at Tokyo 2020 and the forthcoming mixed team event in Los Angeles 2028—as well as his unwavering commitment to the Olympic Agenda’s core values of gender equality, diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and digitalisation.

ITTF President Petra Sorling commented:

“It is with immense pride and gratitude that we gather here today to honour a visionary leader whose extraordinary commitment has profoundly elevated the Olympic Movement and the sport of table tennis worldwide, Dr Thomas Bach.”

“In recognition of his outstanding contributions to table tennis, together with my Deputy President Liu Guoliang, and on behalf of the ITTF, we are honoured to present President Bach with the inaugural ITTF Badge of Honour. This newly established accolade celebrates individuals who have made an exceptional and lasting positive impact on our sport.

“Your visionary leadership and steadfast dedication have not only advanced the Olympic Movement but have also created a lasting legacy for table tennis. As you conclude your distinguished tenure as IOC President, we collectively express our deepest gratitude and admiration for your invaluable contributions.”
