The ITTF Summit 2025 continued today with a Governance and Sustainability Session that examined the federation’s commitment to modern governance standards and environmental responsibility in sport.

The session began with governance presentations led by ITTF Secretary General Raul Calin, who outlined the federation’s governance framework and ongoing initiatives to strengthen institutional practices.

The focus then shifted to sustainability, with Raul Calin remaining on stage to introduce a distinguished panel of sustainability experts. The session featured comprehensive presentations from three key figures driving the ITTF’s environmental agenda:

Karine Teow, Head of Sustainability, presented the federation’s strategic approach to environmental responsibility, outlining current initiatives and future planning for sustainable operations across global table tennis activities.

Jan Fitzgerald, Member of the Sustainability Committee, shared insights into the practical implementation of sustainability measures and the challenges faced in integrating environmental considerations into international sport operations.

Mawuko Afadzinu, Sustainability Committee Chair, provided leadership perspective on the committee’s vision and the broader context of sustainability within the Olympic movement and international sport federations.

The presentations included video content showcasing sustainability initiatives in action, demonstrating practical examples of how environmental considerations are being integrated into table tennis events and operations worldwide.

Delegates engaged actively with the sustainability panel during a question and answer session, seeking clarification on implementation strategies, measurement criteria, and the federation’s long-term environmental commitments. The discussion highlighted both achievements and ongoing challenges in making table tennis more environmentally sustainable.

The session concluded with closing remarks from Francesco Ricci Bitti, Former ASOIF President and Honorary IOC Member, who provided valuable perspective on governance and sustainability trends across international sport federations.

Ricci Bitti’s extensive experience in sport governance offered delegates insights into best practices and the evolving expectations for international federations in both governance standards and environmental stewardship.

The session demonstrated the ITTF’s ongoing commitment to strengthening both its governance structures and sustainability practices. Through presentations, discussions, and expert guidance, delegates gained understanding of how modern sport federations must balance competitive excellence with environmental responsibility and governance transparency.

The comprehensive approach to both governance and sustainability reflects the federation’s recognition that successful sport organisations must meet high standards across all aspects of their operations, from administrative practices to environmental stewardship.
