It's Day 3 of the ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2024 and the action is heating up! With Stage 1 positions to be finalised today - stay ahead of all the key moments as they unfold here in Macao, China!

It’s ranking time: final positions in Stage 1 will be determined in terms of Regulation 3.7.5, first based on win-loss ratios in games and then if there is a tie between two players, the win-loss ratio in points for the match between them. For more information, read here.


Sofia Polacova moves to round of 16 by just one point 

Closing off Stage 1 with the tightest draw of the event, Sofia Polcanova secures her ticket to the round of 16 by a mere one-point margin after drawing in group 16’s final match against Nina Mittleham. Despite the immense pressure, Polcanova displayed remarkable composure and resilience to book herself into the main draw. 


Defending champion Fan Zhendong is through to the round of 16 

2020 Men’s World Cup champion, Fan Zhendong, has secured his place in the round of 16 after clinching two victories in Stage 1. In his final match today, he defeated Wong Chun Ting 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7), continuing his campaign to defend his title and potentially make history as a five-time Men’s World Cup winner.


In a shock turn of events, Suthasini Sawettabut is through to Stage 2

After an intense showdown between Mima Ito and Amy Wang, where both players secured two games each (11-3, 5-11, 14-12, 10-12), a three-way draw emerged in win-to-loss ratios for games within Group 7, with each contestant winning four games during Stage 1. However, based on the win-loss ratio of points, Suthasini Sawettabut narrowly emerges victorious and claims the top position with a ratio of 1.06, narrowly defeating Ito (0.99) and Wang (0.96).


In another draw, Darko Jorgic pulls through with two more points to secure his ticket to the main draw

Drawing with Lee Sang Su in a closely contested match (11-9, 10-12, 11-3, 5-11), Darko Jorgic narrowly secures victory by boasting a higher win-loss ratio for points than Lee. Jorgic accumulates a total of 37 points, edging out Lee by 2 points.


Rounding out session 1 today, Lin Gaoyuan and Joo Cheonhui finish top of their group and progress to Stage 2

Session 1 of the final day of Stage 1 concludes with Lin Gaoyuan securing a flawless victory over Chuang Chih-Yuan, winning 4-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-6, 12-10), and finishing first in Group 6. Meanwhile, in the Women’s Singles, Joo Cheonhui secures her place in Stage 2 by winning two games and drawing against Bruna Takahashi (11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 8-11). This performance brings her total games won to six games, placing her at the top of Group 15.


Jeon Jihee secures her ticket to the next round

In a thrilling encounter against World Youth Champion Kuai Man, Jeon Jihee fought valiantly to secure two games, resulting in a draw. However, she narrowly surpassed Kuai in points won, accumulating 36 points compared to Kuai’s 33 points. This victory secures her place in Stage 2.


World No.1 Wang Chuqin sails through to Stage 2

After a challenging start on day 1, the top seed Wang Chuqin showcased his dominance on the final day of Stage 1, solidifying his place in Stage 2 with a resounding 4-0 victory against Kirill Gerassimenko (11-7, 12-10, 11-2, 11-5).


Returning champion Chen Meng claims her spot into the main draw

The 2020 Women’s Cup champion, Chen Meng, continues her quest to defend her title. Chen secures her passage to Stage 2 in a convincing win against Sreeja Akula, prevailing 3-1 (11-4, 11-4, 13-15, 11-2).


Omar Assar is through to the next round

Omar Assar secures his place in the next round with a commanding 3-1 victory over Truls Moregard (15-13, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5), captivating fans at the Galaxy Arena with his impressive performance.


Tomokazu Harimoto clinches his spot into Stage 2 by just two points

Tomokazu Harimoto advances to the next stage by a narrow margin of just two points, edging out Jonathan Groth in total points accumulated during the match. While Harimoto secured two games against Groth, he amassed a total of 35 points, surpassing Groth’s 33 points. This outcome underscores the critical importance of every point in this new playing system as per Regulation 3.7.5


Wang Yidi narrowly secures spot in Stage 2 by total points

Wang Yidi narrowly secures her ticket into Stage 2 after drawing with Xioana 2-2 this morning (11-711-49-119-11), claiming top position in Group 3 by total points. With a total of 5 games and 81 points accumulated in Stage 1, Wang surpasses Hoi Keem Do’s 5 games and 68 points, highlighting the critical importance of every point in this new playing system


Shunsuke Togami is through to Stage 2!

Kicking off Day 3 with flair, Shunsuke Togami has clinched his place in Stage 2, stunning the 8th seed Dang Qiu with a 3-1 victory (11-5, 7-11, 12-10, 11-0) in an electrifying opening match on the last day of Stage 1.
