When and Where

The Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre (BEXCO) is set to become the epicentre of world table tennis from today, February 16 to 25, 2024, as it hosts the ITTF World Championships Finals. This historic occasion marks the first time the event is being held in the Korea Republic. Brace yourself for ten days of thrilling competition amidst the vibrant atmosphere of Busan, a city pulsating with energy and anticipation.

“Today we are in Busan, aware of the sacrifices and determination it took to bring this event to realisation. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our gracious hosts, and to all our partners who have supported us throughout this journey.” – Petra Sörling, ITTF President and IOC member

“I am thrilled to have the World Championships in Korea Republic for the first time. I would like to thank the organisers and volunteers who are providing us with such exceptional facilities and support, allowing us athletes to focus solely on their performance. I am ready to give my all in this event.” – Shin Yubin, WR8

Trophy Defence

Defending champions China’s formidable teams are back in action, poised to defend their titles in both the Men’s and Women’s categories. As they pursue victory, all eyes are on the prestigious Swaythling Cup and Corbillon Cup, symbols of dominance and excellence in the world of table tennis. With a record-breaking 22 victories each, China’s teams are primed to reaffirm their status as table tennis powerhouses.

Anticipated Showdowns

In the heart of Busan, the stage is set for thrilling clashes as the Korea Republic’s teams step into the spotlight. Buoyed by home-ground advantage, they are determined to make their mark on the global stage. Amidst fierce competition, can they turn the tide and secure glory on home soil? Germany and Japan, formidable challengers, stand ready to challenge China’s longstanding supremacy, setting the scene for an epic battle of skill and determination.

 Individual Rankings

In addition to team success, players now have the opportunity to earn individual ranking points, further intensifying the competition. With up to 1,000 points up for grabs for winning teams, every match becomes a crucial battleground for players aiming to climb the ranks. This innovative approach underscores the importance of individual excellence within the framework of team success, adding a strategic dimension to the tournament.

Sustainability and Legacy

Beyond the thrill of competition, the ITTF World Championships 2024 also exemplifies a commitment to sustainability and legacy-building. Recognised with the prestigious ISO 20121 Certification for Outstanding Sustainability Performance, the event embodies the spirit of environmental responsibility and innovation. From reducing waste to promoting eco-friendly practices, the organisers are leading by example, demonstrating that small steps can make a significant difference in shaping a sustainable future for sport.

Sustainability is very close to my heart, and the ISO Certification we’ve received is a testament to the hard work of our local leadership. The organisers here are showing us that we can all make a difference, even with small steps towards sustainability.”  –  President Sörling.
