Three events on offer, three titles the order of the day

Play concluded on Sunday 2nd October at the ITTF Greek Para Open in Argostoli, Alexandra Saint-Pierre of France and Hungary’s Alexa Svitacs emerged the most successful players; both secured clean sweeps.

After enjoying success in women’s singles class 3-5, Alexandra Saint-Pierre joined forces with compatriots. She partnered Flora Vautier to success in women’s doubles class 10, and Sylvain Noel to gold in mixed doubles class 10.

In both events, organised on a group basis, it was silver for Great Britain’s Sue Bailey; in the former partnering Megan Shackleton, in the latter alongside Jack Hunter-Spivey.

Similarly in a group administered event, after claiming the women’s singles class 9-10 title, Alexa Svitacs partnered Romania’s Ioana-Monica Tepelea to women’s doubles class 20 gold, the pair finishing ahead of Indonesia’s Stella Radayana and Hana Resti.

Later, in mixed doubles class 17, it was success opposing Ioana-Monica Tepelea, who partnered Belgium’s Ben Despineux. Joining forces with Hungarian colleague Andras Csonka, it was first place in an event also administered on the all-play-all principle.

Three titles for Alexandra Saint-Pierre and Alexa Svitacs, for Slovakia’s Martin Ludrovsky, Indonesia’s Adyos Astan, in addition to Great Britain’s Fliss Pickard and Billy Shilton, it was two titles.

Winner of men’s singles class 2, beating colleague Jan Riapos in the final, Martin Ludrovsky partnered his colleague to men’s doubles class 4 success, the pair overcoming the combination of Korea Republic’s Park Sungjoo and Indonesia’s Yosep Sefrianto in the title decider (9-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6).

Similarly, Adyos Astan, the men’s class 4 winner, added the men’s doubles class 8 title to his collection partnering teammate Yayang Gunaya; at the final hurdle the duo overcame Slovakia’s Peter Mihalik and Boris Travnicek (7-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-2, 12-10).

Good form continued, it was the same from Fliss Pickard, the women’s singles class 6-7 winner. She joined forces with colleague, Billy Shilton, to win mixed doubles class 14; in the final they overcame the French duo of Matteo Parenzan and Lucie Hautière (11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-13, 11-8).

Success for Billy Shilton, earlier in men’s doubles class 14, he had secured gold partnering Martin Perry; the duo secured the title at the expense of Frenchmen Clément Berthier and Esteban Herrault (11-9, 15-13, 11-9).

Meanwhile, in the remaining events, Chile’s Manuel Echaveguren and Croatia’s Borna Zohil won men’s doubles class 18; Hungary’s Zsofia Arloy and Romania’s Camela Ciripan combined to win women’s doubles class 14.

Likewise, in the mixed doubles, the Czech Republic’s Martin Zvolanek and Italy’s Allegra Magenta won class 4, the French pairing of Franços Geuljans and Flora Vautier secured class 7 gold, Indonesia’s Komet Akbat and Stella Radayana emerged the class 20 champions.

Play concluded in Argostoli, attention now turns to São Paulo, the ITTF Fa20 Brazilian Para Open 2022 commences on Friday 7th October.
