The 2016 Women’s World Cup in Philadelphia marked the end of international appearances for Tie Yana; it was most apt that the event should be her swansong.

It was her 12th appearance, her first in 2002 in Jinan City, then on duty in the next ten before returning to the scene in the American metropolis.

She became the player to whom her colleagues looked to set the example.
