24 Nov 2020

Following the intensity of competition over the past three weeks, the decision to shorten the matches for the game’s leading players has been taken to ensure their health and welfare at WTT Macao.

Taking place between 25-29 November 2020, WTT Macao is a promotional showcase that will offer a first glimpse into the future of the sport. It boasts a thrilling, original playing format and will place many of the biggest table tennis stars under the spotlight of brand-new WTT surrounds.

The first change comes in the Top 4 Seed Battle. Matches will continue to be contested in a best of 5 games format, the 8-point games have been reduced to 5-point games, and Sudden Death will occur at 4 points apiece.

The second change gives the unique opportunity for the Top 4 seeds to select their opponents for the quarter-finals to add extra intrigue to the experimental event. Following the completion of the Top 4 Seed Battle, the highest ranked player will have the first say to decide their quarter-final opponent. Seed 2 will have the second pick and seed 3 the final choice, with seed 4 playing the last remaining quarter-finalist.

This change will bring an added competitive incentive for the players and unmatched drama to the Top 4 Seed Battle, ensuring that WTT Macao offers high-stakes action from the first to the final ball played.
