Guo Yuehua champion once again (Tokyo 1983)

Men’s Singles: Final

Yet again it is Guo Yuehua’s name that goes down in the history books after successfully making it back-to-back title wins on the World Championships stage.

Cai Zhenhua, just like in 1981, gave it a good go but didn’t have enough to see off his fellow countryman in what turned out to be a four-game contest (21-15, 19-21, 21-18, 21-18). A seventh men’s singles crown to add to China’s collection and a second for Guo.

Men’s Singles: Final

The 1983 final is proving a tight affair in the opening stages of play with neither Guo or Cai able to establish a significant advantage by the close of game two. In the 1981 final Guo struck first and he went on to win the tie – will it be a repeat outcome this time? There’s still a long way to go in this one!

Repeat or revenge, what will it be? (Tokyo 1983)

Down to the final two players in the men’s singles event here in Tokyo as Guo Yuehua and Cai Zhenhua do battle for the 1983 title – will it be a repeat of Guo’s Novi Sad 1981 victory or will Cai claim revenge on this occasion?

Men’s Singles: Semi-Finals

Meeting face-to-face in the Novi Sad 1981 gold medal match, another head-to-head between Guo Yuehua and Cai Zhenhua will be required to decide the World Championships men’s singles title race with Cai also securing his ticket to the final here in Tokyo.

Taking on Wang Huiyuan at the semi-finals stage, Cai recovered from an 0-1 deficit on his way to a 3-1 win (16-21, 21-12, 21-11, 25-23).

Men’s Singles: Semi-Finals

Guo Yuehua and Jiang Jialiang have just played out an absolute thriller here in Tokyo with a place in the men’s singles final awaiting the winner.

A pretty even contest between the two Chinese stars, the standout game of the match was surely the third with Guo just about edging it 25-23. Jiang managed to force a decider with an immediate response but it wasn’t to be his day as Guo seals passage to a fourth consecutive World Championships final.
