A semi-final exit was the end result for the Korea Republic in the women’s event at the ZEN-NOH 2019 Team World Cup in Tokyo on Saturday 9th November; the outcome one step higher than their fifth seeded position suggested.

Notably included in the 3-1 defeat against the Japanese trio of Miu Hirano, Kasumi Ishikawa and Mima Ito was Shin Yubin; she joined forces with Jeon Jihee and Yang Haeun.

Furthermore, the 15 year old did not disappoint; in the doubles she partnered Jeon Jihee to success against Miu Hirano and Kasumi Ishikawa (11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10), before in the fourth match of the fixture testing Mima Ito (8-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9).

It was yet another most promising performance from the teenager; earlier this year at the 2019 ITTF World Tour Czech Open she won the mixed doubles title in partnership with colleague Cho Daeseong; notably the pair beat Jun Mizutani and Mima Ito in the final.

“I was a bit nervous when the match started today but later I started enjoying myself; playing in this competition is an experience I cherish. I was totally focused.” Shin Yubin

Now has Shin Yubin performed sufficiently well to gain in place in next year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“It is the dream of every player to compete at the Olympic Games and this is also my dream as well particularly to win medal for my country; for now I am not sure if I will be part of the 2020 edition. If I will be part of the team, coming to Tokyo is indeed a great experience ahead of next year.” Shin Yubin
