Increasingly a pivotal member of the French national team, Alexandre Robinot has been forced to withdraw from the forthcoming Liebherr 2019 World Championships, play commencing in Budapest on Sunday 21st April.

Meanwhile, both Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Chinese Taipei’s Cheng I-Ching are nursing injuries following their participation in the recent 32nd ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup Yokohama 2019.

Alexandre Robinot, 23 years old, suffered a recent fall and has fractured two bones in his left forearm, the radius and the cubitus; following the accident he underwent surgery, thankfully the operation was successful.

He is now recovering but of course being now less than two weeks before play commences, the time span is too short.

Somewhat differently, for Cheng I-Ching and Tomokazu Harimoto; their goal is to recover in time to compete in Budapest.

On the second day of action in Yokohama, Cheng I-Ching was forced to withdraw from her scheduled quarter-final contest against China’s Chen Meng, an intercostal muscle injury, the muscles than run between the rib cage, the reason for her withdrawal.

Similarly, in Yokohama, Tomokazu Harimoto, experienced problems; each day a doctor was called to massage an inflamed finger. The Japanese Table Tennis Association has arranged for a specialist advice.

Both Cheng I-Ching and Tomokazu Harimoto are players seeking to build on their performances at the Liebherr 2017 World Championships.

After securing a bronze medal at the Perfect 2016 World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur; two years ago in Düsseldorf, partnering Chen Chien-An, Cheng I-Ching was the mixed doubles silver medallist two years ago.

Sensationally, defying the odds, only 13 year old at the time, Tomokazu Harimoto reached the men’s singles quarter-final round.
