Similarly, in the cadet boys’ singles event, Brazil’s Henrique Nogati, the second seed, secured top spot in his group but for the next three names in the order of merit there were defeats.
Argentina’s Tomas Sanchi was beaten by the host nation’s Josthyn Miranda (11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 13-11), Ecuador’s Diego Piguave suffered at the hands of Brazil’s Gustavo Gertsmann (8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5). Similarly, Paraguay’s Elias Apud experienced defeat when facing Ecuador’s Jeremy Cedeño (11-9, 11-9, 12-10).
The consolation for Tomas Sanchi and Diego Piguave was that it was their only defeat; second place in the group and progress to the main draw was thus reserved. Alas for Elias Apud, third position was his lot and the end of the road. Josthyn Miranda, Josthyn Miranda and Jeremy Cedeño duly remained unbeaten to reserve first positions.
Somewhat differently, in the cadet girls’ singles event, the leading names all secured first places in their respective groups. In addition to Guilia Takahashi, it was top spot for colleague, Laura Watanabe, as it was for Colombia’s Juliana Lozada and Maria Maldonado. However, lower down the order there were surprise first places. Contrary to expectations, there were first places for Argentina’s Dina Ding and the host nation’s Catalina Muñoz, in addition Ana Aragon and Mariagrazia La Torre.
Success for Guilia Takahashi and Laura Watanabe apart; there was also success in the cadet girls’ doubles event. They progressed safely to the quarter-final round where they meet Peru’s Ana Aragon and Maria Maldonado; in the opposite half of the draw Chile’s Fernanda Araneda and Sofia Vega confront Ecuador’s Maria Borja and Alisson Loor.
Likewise in the cadet boys’ doubles event, play has reached the quarter-final stage. Carlos Fernandez in partnership with Adrian Rubinos meet Argentina’s Facundo de Leon and Tomas Sanchi; Brazil’s Shim Joon and Henrique Noguti confront Paraguay’s Elias Apud and Axel Bertolo.
