One ITTF/PTT Level One Course concluded, two days later for Wajira Wickramasinghe in the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo it was a return to duty; he led a second such self-funded initiative from Friday 18th to Tuesday 22nd January.

Organised under auspices of ITTF High Performance and Development in conjunction the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, the venue for the whole itinerary was the Andro Table Tennis Academy.

A total of 12 coaches attended, taking into account both courses the overall total was 28 in number; the programme reflecting the current high demand for coach education in the country.

“I would really to thank the coaches for their efforts, enthusiasm and team spirit which they showed throughout the course. The participants for both courses were university students, school teachers, sport officers and coaches already involved with school coaching. Once back home I feel they will develop table tennis in Sri Lanka. Two courses completed at the beginning of the year is a good sign for Sri Lankan table tennis. Now it is time to move forward, a most comprehensive programme is in place.” Wajira Wickramasinghe

All responded to the efforts of Wajira Wickramasinghe who set the task that each coach should develop a minimum 20 players by the end of the year; the total goal some 560 players!

“Once again my thanks to the International Table Tennis Federation, the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka; Acting President Mr. Chathura Jayendra; General Secretary Mr. Kasun Vithana and Mr. Chandana Perera alongside the Andro Table Tennis Academy for the support they gave to make this course a success. Special thanks go to Ms. Yelena Druzhkova and Mr. Ramon Ortega Montes for their valuable advice and the guidance they have given throughout the course. Also many thanks to Mr. Ian Marshall and Mrs. Silvia Bernard for their valuable support. I hope to comeback with another course in future.” Wajira Wickramasinghe

A successful start to the year; for Wajira Wickramasinghe there are no doubt many such courses to follow maybe a 1,000 new players by the end of the year?
