Winner of the Mixed Doubles title at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, in partnership with colleague Yu Mengu; on Sunday 30th December, Singapore’s Gao Ning celebrated a mixed doubles occasion of a rather different nature; he married Tina Wang.

The ceremony was held at the Red House Restaurant @ The Cannery.

Earlier this year Gao Ning, 36 years old, announced his retirement from international play and on a high note; in addition to the Mixed Doubles success in the Gold Coast, additionally, safe and secure as always, he claimed Men’s Singles gold and thus added to his most impressive list of titles.

Present at the most recent three editions of the Olympic Games, competing in Beijing, London and Rio de Janeiro; in addition to extensive success in Commonwealth and South East Asia tournaments, on the ITTF World Tour, Gao Ning won Men’s Singles titles in 2007 in New Delhi and in 2012 in Santiago.

However, it was Men’s Doubles events that he enjoyed the greatest success. Partnering Yang Zi, the duo appeared in no less than 14 finals, winning four times; in addition in 2008 they succeeded at the Grand Finals in Macao. Furthermore, partnering Li Hu, Gao Ning won in 2012 in Kuwait and in the Grand Finals in consecutive years succeeding in 2012 in Hangzhou and in 2013 in Dubai.

Now another golden moment, his heart was captured by Tina Wang, 30 years old, whom he met some 18 months ago, the introduction being courtesy of a mutual friend.

A different life for Gao Ning, now married, he will fulfil the role of Assistant Coach for the Singapore Men’s Team.
