Built in 1850 for military exercises in preparation for battle; from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th November, the Exercishuset located in the very centre of the west coast Swedish city of Gothenburg will be the actual battleground.

The historic building will host the Idrottsforengingen Ifo tournament; the biggest and most long standing annual veteran tournament in Northern Europe.

In the early years, the tournament was for Swedish players only but following the successful staging of the first ever World Veteran Championships, held in the city in 1982, the tournament became an international event.

Proceedings commence with the Men’s Team and Women’s Team events: on the second day of action the focus is directed towards Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles competitions with the concluding day being earmarked for Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

All events with the exception of Mixed Doubles will be played in two stages, group all-play-all phase followed by a main draw and consolation administered on a knock-out basis.

At the helm of proceedings is Hans Westling, the man who year after year so efficiently organises the World Veteran Championships; he is delighted with the response already received.

“One week from entry deadline do we have entries from ten countries; more are expected to show up.” Hans Westling

The entry fee combining Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles events is SEK 300 per player, the same applying for Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles competitions; for Men’s Singles or Women’ Singles only, it is SEK 200 per player, for Men’s Doubles or Women’s Doubles only SEK 150 per player. Mixed Doubles is SEK 80 per player; Men’s Team or Women’s Team events SEK 500 per team.

The closing date for entries is Sunday 21st October.
