Memorably, Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu and Sun Beibei with Li Jiawei and Yu Mengyu completing the squad, secured the highest honour when winning the Women’s title at the Liebherr 2010 World Team Championships in Moscow; now is there a young lady from Singapore set the tread in their footsteps?

Staged at the Toa Payoh Central Community Club, Ser Lin Qian emerged the most successful player of all at the ten day Dr. Ng Eng Hen Cup Singapore Championships which concluded on Sunday 9th September.

Only 12 years old, a member of the Singapore Youth Training Squad, she won the Under 12 and Under 15 Girls’ Singles titles, as well as securing the top step of the podium in the Women’s Singles event.

Success and success in a prestigious domestic tournament; one which underlines the popularity of the sport in the city state and one which endorses the fact, that there is a solid base for progress.

It is a fact the delighted Laura Wong, the Singapore Table Tennis Association’s Marketing and Events Manager

“This tournament has helped to promote the sport and build a vibrant sporting scene across the Republic. This year, the tournament attracted over 820 entries, making it one of the Singapore Table Tennis Association’s most popular events. In addition, we had the oldest participant Johnson Chew How Kiang at 68 years old and the youngest member Zhang Yi Han at six years old participating in this annual event.” Laura Wong
