First place for the top seeds, Hong Kong’s Phoebe Hui Wai and Ng Wing Lam, at the conclusion of the group stage of play in the Cadet Girls’ Team event at the 2018 Chinese Taipei Junior and Cadet Open on Wednesday 22nd August.

It was the same for Singapore’s Zhou Jingyi and Ser Lian Qian, the no.3 seeds but in the remaining groups there were surprise outcomes.

Japan ‘A’ represented by Yura Shinohara and Anne Uesawa emerged as surprise group winners, as did Chinese Taipei ‘C’ who, in each fixture, selected Hou Chin-En and Chen Tsai-Ni for the singles matches, Jhuang Jia-Yu joining forces with Chen Tsai-Ni for the doubles.

Success against the odds for Hou Chin-En, Chen Tsai-Ni and Jhuang Jia-Yu; it was the same for their colleagues Chinese Taipei ‘B’. They selected from Tsai Chi-Chen, Chu Yi-Ching and Wu Yu-Ning.

The crucial contest for Yura Shinohara and Anne Uesawa was when facing Joanna Sung and Rachel Sung of the United States, the no.2 seeds; a three-two win was the outcome with Rachel Sung being the player to cause the Japanese duo problems. She beat both Yura Shinohara (11-4, 11-8, 11-6) and Anne Uesawa (11-6, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9) but that was to prove the sum total of her team’s success.

Meanwhile, for Hou Chin-En, Chen Tsai-Ni and Jhuang Jia-Yu, the vital result was the three-one success in opposition to the no.4 seeds, the Hong Kong ‘B’ formation comprising Chelsea Shiu Lam and Yenn Ho Ching; a contest in which Chen Tsai-Ni starred. She accounted for both Yenn Ho Ching (11-7, 11-7, 11-13, 11-3) and Chelsea Shiu Lam (11-3, 10-12, 11-4, 8-11, 11-1).

A three-one win against the fourth seeds, it was the same for Chinese Taipei ‘B’; with Wu Yu-Ning resigned to the bench, Tsai Chi-Chen and Chu Yi-Ching overcame the Korea Republic ‘A’ combination of Kim Seongjin and Kim Nayeong. The name to note was Chiu Yi-Ching, she accounted for both Kim Seongjin (11-9, 8-11, 10-12, 13-11, 11-6) and Kim Nayeong (7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9).

Defeats for three seeded teams but a degree of consolation; it was their only defeat of the day, all finished in second places and thus advanced to the main draw.

Play in the Cadet Girls’ Team event concludes on Thursday 23rd August.
