Tested but at the end of the day, Wang Chen-You and Yang Tsan-Wei emerged successful as they struck gold on Thursday 16th August to secure the Cadet Boys’ Team title for Chinese Taipei at the 2018 El Salvador Junior and Cadet Open staged in the country’s capital city of San Salvador.

At the final hurdle the Latin American combination of Costa Rica’s Ricardo Azofeifa and Peru’s Carlos Fernandez, the top seeds, proved more than worthy opposition.

A three-two victory margin was the end result; the player to cause the champions elect problems, who started play as the no.7 seeds, being Carlos Fernandez. He accounted for both Yang Tsan-Wei (13-11, 11-7, 11-7) and Wang Chen-You (11-7, 11-8, 11-2).

Man if the moment for Chinese Taipei was Yang Tsan-Wei; matters level, in the vital fifth match of the fixture, he accounted for Ricardo Azofeifa (3-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-7).

Testing times in the final for Wang Chen-You and Yang Tsan-Wei; it had been the same in the opening round when extended the full five match distance by the no.10 seeds, the United States ‘B’ Team combination of Mudit Mahajan and Alexander Wu. The player to test the Chinese Taipei duo was Alexander Wu, he accounted for both Yang Tsan-Wei (11-7, 11-8, 11-9) and Wang Chen-You (12-10, 15-11, 11-5). Hero of the hour, as in the final, was Yang Tsan-Wei; in the fifth match of the fixture he overcame Mudit Mahajan (11-6, 11-5, 11-7).

The opening round negotiated; finding form Wang Chen-You and Yang Tsan-Wei recorded a three-nil quarter-final win in opposition to the no.2 seeds, the Puerto Rico ‘A’ Team combination of Angel Naranjo and Jabdiel Torres, prior to securing a three-one success against the no.11 seeds, the United States ‘A’ Team pairing formed by Sahil Puri and Jayden Zhou.

Meanwhile, in the opposite half of the draw, a direct entry to the quarter-finals, Ricardo Azofeifa and Carlos Fernandez opened their second day account by overcoming the no.12 seeds, United States ‘C’ Team pairing of Jonathan Qin and Ved Seth by three matches to one, prior to succeeding by the same margin against Guatemala’s Sergio Carillo and Jorge Chacon, the no.4 seeds.

Notably the one match surrendered against the United States ‘C’ Team was that suffered by Carlos Fernandez in the opening match of the fixture. He was beaten by Ved Seth (7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8); it was to prove his only singles defeat in the whole event.

The Cadet Boys’ Team events concluded; attention now turns to the individual competitions. Play concludes in San Salvador on Sunday 12th August.
