Noteworthy performances were the order of the day at the 2018 Hang Seng Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Friday 3rd August; however, the player to stand out from the crowd was Japan's Fuwa Yumoto.

She received the "Best Challenger Award".

In the group stage of the Cadet Girls’ Singles event, life was difficult, she was beaten by Anna Hursey of Wales (15-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7) and by Hong Kong’s Karen Lee Hoi Man (11-5, 10-12, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5).

However, in the Junior Girls’ Singles event it was a very different story. In the initial stage of proceedings she accounted for both Lee La Kee, like Karen Lee Hoi Man from Hong Kong (7-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9) and for India’s Swastika Ghosh (11-5, 11-5, 12-10).

“I am very happy to win this award. It is my second year to play in the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open. I like Hong Kong very much. I will try my best and hope to win the remaining games.” Fuwa Yumoto

On the Under 18 Girls’ World Rankings for July, Lee Ka Yee is listed at no.29, Swastika Ghosh at no.73; the name of Fuwa Yumoto does not appear at all.

Both most creditable wins; the success against Lee Ka Yee secured the award.
