Comprehensive wins, Brazil dominated both the Junior Girls’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events at the 2018 South American Junior and Cadet Championships in the Chilean capital city of Santiago on Thursday 22nd March.

At the second stage of proceedings, both titles were secured without the loss of a single individual match.

Impressive throughout, having beaten the Peruvian trio of Teresa Chan, Katherine Mori and Kelly Santur at the semi-final stage, in the final of the Junior Girls’ Team event, the Brazilian outfit comprising Tamyres Fukase, Fernanda Kodoma and Livia Lima displayed no charity when opposing Chile’s Claudia Infante, Natalie Ramos and Valentina Rios.

Livia Lima gave the Brazilians the perfect start by beating Natalie Ramos (11-7,11-3, 6-11, 11-7); Tamyres Fukase overcame Valentina Rios (6-11, 11-9, 13-11, 14-12), before Fernanda Kodama claimed victory over Claudia Infante (12-14, 11-5, 8-11, 11-1, 11-7).

Earlier, in the counterpart semi-final, fielding the same three players, Chile had recorded a three-one win in opposition to the Argentine combination of Isabella Fragapane, Camila Kaizoji and Muriel Rajmil. Mainstay of the victory had been Valentina Rios, she accounted for both Camila Kaizoji (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) and Muriel Rajmil (11-8, 11-9, 11-4).

Most impressive performances from Tamyres Fukase, Fernanda Kodoma and Livia Lima; in the Cadet Girls’ Team competition it was the same from their colleagues, Giovanna Grilo, Giulia Takahashi and Laura Watanabe.

After overcoming the Peruvian outfit comprising Francesca Escobar, Maria Maldonado and Alejandra Prieto; the title was secured at the final expense of Colombia’s Alejandra Alzate, Juliana Locado and Juliana Rodriguez.

Laura Watanabe set Brazil on the road to victory by beating Alejandra Alzate (11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9); Giulia Takahashi extended the lead, she overcome Juliana Rodriguez (11-2, 11-8, 11-4), prior to Giovanna Grilo accounted for Julians Locado (12-10, 11-6, 11-7) to end matters.

Earlier in the penultimate round, Alejandra Alzate, Juliana Locado and Juliana Rodriguez had recorded a three-two win against the Chilean combination of Macarena Montecino, Mariam Ruiz and Sofia Vega. Backbone of the success was Alejandra Alzate; she beat both Mariam Ruiz (11-8, 12-10, 11-8) and Macarena Montecino (11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-7).

The team events concluded, attention now turns to the individual competitions; play concludes on Sunday 25th March.
