An absence of several years since such a course had been staged, the Cambodia Table Tennis Federation (CTTF) led by its president, Mr. Rat Sokhorn, recently organized an ITTF Level One Basic Certified Umpires Course; proceedings commenced on Friday 19th January and concluded on Sunday 21st January.

Self-funded, administered under the umbrella of the ITTF Development Programme and with the approval of the ITTF Umpires and Referees Committee, venue for the whole itinerary was the conference room of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia Main Building. The premises proved most ideal, all the necessary facilities and equipment were made available.

At the semi-final stage Ser Lin Qian beat the host nation’s Natch Supawatanakul, before overcoming Malaysia’s Lee Xin Ni in the final.

Impressive performances, it was the same from Quek Yong Izaac he accounted for Chayanan Karnthang prior to accounting for Kasidach Nitibowonkun, likewise from Thailand, to seal victory.

Meanwhile, there was further good news from Singapore, 11 years old Tan Kai Yang Jayden finished in sixth position in the Boys’ Singles event, Lai Chloe Neng Huen, secured eighth position in the counterpart Girls’ Team competition.

Quek Yong Izaac and Ser Lin Qian now qualify for the Asia Hopes Week to be held later in the year in April 2018; the ultimate goal being the ITTF Hopes Week and Challenge for three places, as with Europe, are allotted to Asia.
