Staged in Montevideo, the capital city of the small South American country of Uruguay, the LTM Club was the recent home for an ITTF/PTT Level One Coaches Course; a five day itinerary, proceedings commenced on Saturday 16th December.

Organised under the direction of the ITTF Development Programme and with the approval of the Uruguay Table Tennis Federation, the expert on duty was the host country’s Gonzalo Lorenzotti.

by Ian Marshall, ITTF Publications Editor

A total of 14 students attended, travelling from several Uruguayan cities as well as from neighbouring Argentina.

Two sessions were held each day, one theory and one practical with all members of the group responding to the efforts of Gonzalo Lorenzotti.

“The group was committed and enthusiastic, the students actively participated and showed a special interest in practical matters, such as preparing the racket for playing”, Gonzalo Lorenzotti

Undoubtedly, the course raised eyebrows and opened eyes; the idea of using beach balls to explain rotation, most certainly caught the imagination.

Matters concluded with a theoretical and practical test; the task now for the successful students is to complete 30 hours of practical coaching with five hours supervised.
