Just one round of group stage fixtures remains in the Seamaster 2017-2018 Women’s Champions League season and one team which is looking to end the year on a positive note by progressing to the last eight of the tournament is Linz AG Frschberg.

Requiring just three games to earn a spot in the quarter-finals, the Austrian side travels to Spain on Wednesday 20th December to face UCAM Cartagena TM in the concluding Group B match but despite the odds of qualification greatly favouring the visitors Linz president Günther Renner insists that his team isn’t over the finish line just yet.

“Of course, we are aware that we need only three games to go up into quarters, but we also want to win this match in Cartagena. It will be a strange situation because if we lose the first two matches, like in the last match in Linz against Bursa, we would be under unbelievable pressure so we hope to win a match or at least three games in the first two matches.” Günther Renner.

The fixture in Cartagena not only presents Linz with a fantastic opportunity to reach the last eight but also the chance to end the year in style, celebrating a fine start to the Champions League campaign.

Club president Günther Renner wants his team to make the most the short break coming up after match day 6 before the players returns to action in the new year.

“After the match our players deserve to enjoy the Christmas holidays. It has been a long season already and the time to relax is very short before the preparation for the quarter-finals and for Hungary Open starts.” Günther Renner.
