Organised by the Haitian Table Tennis Federation, the Sport for Hope Centre, officially opened in July 2014 following the disastrous earthquake of four years earlier, was the home for the recent national championships.

A total of 61 players competed in the tournament held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December.

Events, all singles, in eight age groups were staged: Under 13, Under 15, Under 18, Under 21 plus 30 to 49 years, 50 years and over. Additionally there were Men’s singles and Women’s Singles events.

Players from affiliated clubs throughout the country participated.

At the helm of proceedings was Bukford Demosthenes, the General Secretary of the Haitian Table Tennis Federation who explained his delight at having organised a most successful initiative

“There was a family atmosphere, convivial but also intense competition. The stakes were high because all the table tennis players wanted to finish the sporting year in style; this creating a high level of motivation and determination especially amongst the rising generation.

We would like to thank all the sponsors: Global Parts S.A, Frozen Filet, Stanco S.A and the International Olympic Committee, the Centre Sport for Hope of Haiti and the staff of the Administration of this Centre. A special thanks to the Club Directors, the Athletes, the Refereeing Commission, the handlers, the volunteers and Vladimyr Mathieu for their contribution to the realization of this national competition. Merry Christmas and best wishes for the year 2018!”
