Nominated in the past, Quadri Aruna and Wahid Oshodi appearon the short list of names for the prestigious annual Nigeria Sports Awards.

Quadri Aruna, who is recent years has become a well-known name in his country beyond the boundaries of table tennis, appears in the “Ball Sports Person of the Year” list, an accolade he has won on two occasions and in the “Sportsman of the Year” category.

On the former he appears alongside Ike Diogu and Evelyn Akhator, the respective male and female Nigeria national basketball captains; on the latter list he also faces competition from Ike Diogu and from English Premiership footballer, Chelsea’s Victor Moses.

Meanwhile, Wahid Oshodi, the President of the Nigerian Table Tennis Federation, appears on the Administrator of the Year list alongside Daniel Igali, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation and Shehu Dikko, the Chair of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The nominations are based on achievements gained during the period November 2016 to September 2017.

Chair of the Award Panel is Dr. Kweku Tandoh, confident that a most memorable evening awaits.

”We have taken time to look at the nominees for the different categories. We did justice to arrive at the nominees for the different categories. The process was transparent and fair. We can proudly say that the nominees selected for the 15 categories deserve to be winners by all standards.” Dr. Kweku Tandoh

Other awards include male and female Footballer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Governor of the Year, the male and female Special Athlete of the Year, Discovery of the Year and Team of the Year.

The names of the winners will be announced at the Annual Dinner staged at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on Friday 17th November.
