Nominations from national associations are welcome from applicants between 18 years to 26 year old.
Ambition, reward and success are the three pillars of the initiative. Ambition is the desire to achieve the highest levels in umpiring, success is to participate in the on-line learning project; the reward is to officiate at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games with airfare and accommodation paid.
The first step is to enrol, the deadline date being some two months hence on Sunday 15th October. During the period Wednesday 1st to Thursday 30th November, a total of 40 applicants will be selected to follow an on-line course. The final selection of a maximum 12 candidates who have achieved the necessary standard on the on-line examination will be advised on or before Friday 15th December.
A course fee of US$75.00 applies for the on-line course; candidates are required to possess a national umpires qualification or higher and must have a good knowledge of English, the language in which the course will be conducted.
Gender equality will be considered when announcing the final list. In addition there may be an opportunity to officiate at an ITTF 2018 Road to Buenos Aires qualification tournament.
All successful candidates will receive a certificate and all successful national umpires will qualify as international umpires with effect on Friday 15th June 2018.
Additionally a two-day extra course is planned immediately prior to the Game.
