Success for Brazil in the Mixed Doubles event; also in the Boys’ Doubles competition hopes remain high for further success.
Proceedings having advanced to the semi-final stage; Daniel Godoi and Diogo Silva meet Puerto Rico’s Angel Naranjo and Jabdiel Torres in the penultimate round. In the opposite half of the draw, Argentina’s Luciano Alto and Matias Guadalupe confront Mexico’s Dario Arce and Adrian Castillo.
Medal hopes alive for Brazil in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles event but somewhat surprisingly not in the Cadet Girls’ Doubles competition. Against expectations, Beatriz Kimoto and Livia Lima, the top seeds experienced a second round exit. They were beaten by Mexico’s Ana Magana and Monica Muñoz in a tense five games encounter decided by the minimal two point margin (5-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10).
A hard fought second round win for the Mexicans; the quarter-final duel was less traumatic. Impressively they accounted for Chile’s Claudia Infante and Mariam Ruiz, in straight games (11-8, 12-10, 11-9).
In the penultimate round, they meet Puerto Rico’s Fabiola Diaz and Kassandra Maldonado; in the opposite half of the draw, Chile’s Jerusalen Flores and Valentina Rios oppose Mexico’s Marbella Aceves and Clio Barcenas.
The finals of both the Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles events will be played on Saturday 12th August.
