Winner in 2011 in Rabat and four years later in Yaoundé, Egypt’s Dina Meshref will defend her title at the forthcoming 2017 ITTF African Cup to be staged as six years ago in Morocco but on this occasion in Agadir.

A three day tournament, play commences on Saturday 1st July.

The venue is the same as last year when Agadir hosted the 2016 ITTF Africa Championships, an occasion when she was beaten in the final of the Women’s Singles event by Nigeria’s Olufunke Oshonaike.

A graduate of the America University of Cairo, she spoke to Olalekan Okusan, ITTF Africa Press Officer

I know that the competition in Agadir, Morocco will be tough with a lot of worthy competitors. I am re-checking all my weaknesses that led to the defeat in October and I am working hard to avoid them again; whether I play against Olufunke Oshonaike or any other player.

I think I had a good three week period to practise and prepare for the tournament. Also, I believe the matches at the World Championships in Düsseldorf were good to prepare me for Morocco.

The challenge will be from my teammates and the Nigerian players. I hope I can win the African Cup and qualify to the World Cup this year. It’s always great to represent Egypt at a prestigious event such as the World Cup.”

I like the sea view in Agadir. Also, the Moroccans are very kind, warm and welcoming people.
