Chinese Taipei's Lin Chia-Hsuan pulled off a magnificent comeback win against Sarah De Nutte (11-8, 10-12, 9-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-5, 13-11) on day two of the 2016 Swedish Open to claim her second 4-3 victory in the qualifying group stage of the Women's Singles category in Stockholm.

Lin Chia-Hsuan had been involved in a tight seven game encounter on day one of the tournament having edged out Chilean player Natalia Castellano in the opening match, and now the Chinese Taipei contestant has picked up another 4-3 win after she defeated the highest ranked player in group 12, Sarah De Nutte of Luxembourg.

The first half of the match didn’t go as planned for Lin, who despite taking the opening game went on to fall 1-3 behind to De Nutte. However, a resilient Lin kept up the fight and after levelling the tie at 3-3 the Chinese Taipei player went on to steal the seventh end in deuce to seal the points (11-8, 10-12, 9-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-5, 13-11).

While Lin Chia-Hsuan was able to squeeze over the line in her second match, it was rather a mixed bag of results overall for Chinese Taipei.

Lee I-Chen made it two wins from two group 3 encounters following her 4-0 victory over Chile’s Paulina Vega (11-8, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4) on day two, but Wang Yi-Ju lost out to Czech competitor Hana Matelova (11-4, 9-11, 2-11, 7-11, 13-11, 11-6, 8-11) and there were also defeats for Lin Po-Hsuan, Hsiung Nai-I and Lin Chia-Chih.

There were no disappointing results for any of the Japanese participants on day two in Stockholm with the four representatives in action all triumphing.

Saki Tashiro is leading group 11 after she beat Chinese Taipei’s Lin Po-Hsuan in six games (5-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-4) and So Eka managed to breeze past Korea Republic’s Lee Eunhye without losing a single game (11-6, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7). The two other Japanese competitors in action were Mizuki Morizono and Kyoka Kato, who managed to register wins in seven ends against Hungary’s Dora Madarasz (11-3, 10-12, 13-11, 7-11, 5-11, 15-13, 11-9) and Kim Vermaas of The Netherlands (11-13, 11-8, 11-4, 10-12, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8).

Elsewhere, India’s Manika Batra secured her spot in the main draw with her second successful result in group 9 where she overcame Belarusian opponent Alina Arlouskaya (11-3, 14-12, 8-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-7) while USA’s Jiaqi Zheng and Germany’s Nina Mittelham took first place in group 10 and group 7 respectively.

The players who finish in the top two of the 16 qualifying groups will join the top 32 seeds in the Round of 64.
