A total of 16 players in attendance, seven boys and nine girls plus eight coaches from seven countries, the first Eurotalents Pre-Selection Camp concluded in Stockerau on Tuesday 2nd August.

Following soon after, likewise funded by the ITTF-ETTU Development Programme, the second Eurotalents Pre-Selection Camp was held from Friday 5th to Friday 12th August in the Hungarian town of Kiskunfelegyhaza, a record number of 47 players, 20 boys and 27 girls from 16 countries accompanied by 17 coaches attending.

The number included 12 practice partners with proceedings being directed by Ferenc Karsai, the man who guided Werner Schlager to the World title in 2003.

Overall a total of 13 training sessions was held, usually three per day, with a tournament being staged to conclude matters.

Positive Response

“Considering that more than 60 players attended the camp, the overall training programme was completed to the benefit of all concerned”, said Neven Cegnar, the Development Manager for the European Table Tennis Union.

“Almost every coach and player expressed great satisfaction with all conditions at the camp, as well as with the content”, added Neven Cegnar. “A full evaluation process was carried out in both Stockerau and Kiskunfelegyhaza.

Final Selection Camp

The final Selection Camp, which will be held at the beginning of October in Otocec, Slovenia; the number of invitations will depend on results from the Eurominichamps tournament, which will be held in Schiltigheim, Francce at the end of August.
