Friday 17th July 2020 marks the quarter-century for Khalil Al-Mohannadi as President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA).

Since taking over the leadership in 1995, QTTA has become one of the highest valued partners of the ITTF with the deepest relationship to table tennis, consolidated through one of the most prestigious annual table tennis events, the ITTF World Tour Platinum Qatar Open.

The Qatar Open, which also celebrated 25 years in March 2020, has long attracted the world’s best players and offered among the highest prize money on the circuit. The event has helped to successfully increase the profile of table tennis in Qatar and the Middle East region.

Al-Mohannadi has also contributed greatly to the success of the ITTF both in his role as Deputy President (2014-present and 2005-2009) and previously as Vice President (2009-2014). Also an ITTF Executive Committee member, Al-Mohannadi has played a key role to reaching significant milestones, including the creation of the first ITTF Strategic Plan in 2018 and the ITTF’s notable progress in good governance. He will bring a wealth of invaluable experience to World Table Tennis (WTT) where he will sit on the WTT Board.

When the COVID-19 public health crisis began to escalate in February 2020, Al-Mohannadi acted swiftly to provide high-quality training facilities in Doha for the Chinese National Team, enabling them to safely continue their practise regime outside of China, at the time the epicentre of the pandemic. The gesture underlined the spirit of immense solidarity demonstrated among the international table tennis family.

ITTF CEO and WTT Director, Steve Dainton, complimented Al-Mohannadi on his landmark 25th Anniversary as QTTA President and his outstanding contribution to the sport over these years:

“In view of your great contribution and commitment to the table tennis community, we would like to thank you for your continuous support to the global development of the sport throughout the years.

“In particular, during the recent pandemic which has greatly impacted our organisation and the international events, your understanding towards the situation has been much appreciated.

“We are looking forward to continuing to work together and, through World Table Tennis, to create a brighter future for the sport worldwide.”
